Job Description
- We seek a dynamic and experienced Lead Editor to oversee all editorial activities and content production for Climate Action Africa.
- The ideal candidate will manage a team of writers and contributors to ensure the delivery of high-quality and engaging content across various platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an editorial strategy aligned with Climate Action Africa’s mission and objectives.
- Lead and manage a team of writers and contributors, providing guidance, feedback, and support to ensure the production of high-quality content.
- Oversee the planning, creation, and publication of editorial content across multiple channels, including website articles, blog posts, newsletters, reports, and social media posts.
- Collaborate with other teams, especially the research and policy team, to align editorial content with organisational goals and campaigns.
- Ensure editorial consistency, accuracy, and adherence to brand guidelines across all content produced by the team.
- Stay informed about current events, trends, and developments related to climate change, sustainability, and environmental issues to inform editorial decision-making.
- Manage editorial calendars, deadlines, and workflows to ensure timely content delivery.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and evaluations of team members, providing coaching and development opportunities as needed.
- Monitor and analyse content performance metrics to track audience engagement, identify trends, and inform future editorial strategies.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timely delivery of high-quality editorial content in line with organisational goals and objectives.
- Increase website traffic, engagement, and user retention driven by editorial content.
- Improve content performance metrics, including page views, time on page, bounce rate, and social shares.
- Growth in the number of subscribers and readership of Climate Action Africa’s newsletters and publications.
- Enhancement of brand reputation and authority through thought leadership content and contributions.
- Achievement of specific campaign objectives.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in editorial management, with a track record of successfully leading teams and delivering high-quality content in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong understanding of editorial principles, practices, and standards, including AP style and SEO best practices.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, passionate about storytelling and communicating complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing platforms.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience in environmental journalism or a related field is a plus.
